My beautiful sister, Laura, a 35-year-old British citizen, has lived 30 years of her life in the UK. Five years ago, she moved to Saudi Arabia to advance her career, always intending to return home permanently.

In 2022, Laura was diagnosed with pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH), a serious and progressive lung condition. Over the past four years, her health has deteriorated, and she now faces a suspected PVOD — a rare and severe form of PAH with no approved medication. She will eventually require a lung transplant, but right now, the urgent priority is getting her back to the UK where she can receive the specialist care she desperately needs.

For the past two months, Laura has been in hospital in Saudi Arabia, and her condition continues to worsen. She is now too unwell to travel on a commercial flight and requires a specialist medical team to accompany her on a medivac, with a UK hospital team ready to provide immediate intensive care the moment she lands.

We now have a huge but hopeful update — Laura has been accepted by the NHS and a specialist hospital in the UK. This means she can receive the life-saving care she needs as soon as she is back home.

However, we now face the next critical challenge: getting her there.

We have been quoted £108,600 for the medical evacuation required to bring Laura safely back to the UK. This includes a fully equipped air ambulance and specialist medical team to care for her during the journey.

Due to the ongoing conflict in the region, the cost of this medivac is significantly higher than usual. The situation has made travel more complex and urgent, requiring additional resources, planning, and specialist support to ensure Laura can be transported safely.

As her sister, I am devastated. Watching her struggle from so far away is unbearable. Every day feels critical. On top of this, my mum and dad have been out there caring for her around the clock, and with the escalating conflict, their safety is also a constant worry.
