Help Bring Kurtis Home

My name is Rhonda John, and I am Kurtis’s sister-in-law. I am organizing this fundraiser to help bring Kurtis home to be laid to rest in Aklavik, surrounded by loved ones.

We are deeply saddened by the passing of Kurtis. At this time, we can confirm that his death is being treated as suspicious, and the RCMP has launched a homicide investigation. While we understand there are many questions, we are unable to share further details in order to protect the integrity of the investigation. We thank the public for their support and patience during this difficult time.

As many of you know, traveling to the North—especially on short notice—is extremely expensive. The cost of flights from Fort McMurray to Inuvik is very high, and it presents a major financial barrier for family members who want to be there to say goodbye. On top of that, there are additional costs associated with memorial services, accommodations, and other arrangements during this difficult time.

The funds raised will go toward covering the cost of transporting Kurtis home, as well as helping Justine and other close family members travel north to be with our family and grieve together. Your support means so much to our family as we work to honor Kurtis’s memory and lay him to rest in the place he called home.
