Helping sweet Justice ♡ The Borba Family
Hello!
Thank you SO much for expressing interest in helping our sweet Justice, she is a sick girl right now...
As you may have seen on social media, our beautiful (and mischievous) 3 year old golden retriever, Justice, found and ate an entire packet of sugar-free gum (which contains xylitol, which is toxic for dogs) while we were away for the evening, on Tuesday, August 10th.
Due to it being late at night, we rushed Justice to an Emergency Vet (Pulse Veterinary Specialists and Emergency in Sherwood Park, Alberta).
As some of you may know, emergency vet care and hospitalization is very expensive, and Justice is still undergoing 24/7 care at this time.
The specailists team at Pulse are concerned about liver damage and blood glucose levels. Justice's current blood glucose/dextrose levels were not stabilizing and actually dropped low the following day in care, and her liver count is high 1500+, resulting in more hospital stay time and constant around-the-clock care and expenses.
We have checked around with a few other vets (and so have some dear friends of ours) to see if alternative care is an option with Justice's case, in order to be closer to home and in a desperate attempt to lower the costs of urgent care. Unfortunately, we were told that due to Justice's current emergency status and constant need for observation that that was something they could not offer, nor were they comfortable taking her when emergency 24 hour care is what was most needed to save Justice's life. That, and frightening words like "fatal", "in case of end of life care options", and "possibility of passing away in transition", etc. forced us to keep Justice at the hospital with no other option, except to continue praying for our precious pup, and plead for a miracle. Since we have no children of our own (yet :), our doggies are like children to us and are so very loved, our 4-legged family members.
Justice is currently still hospitalized, and due to covid protocols, we cannot visit her, and there is no indication at this time as to when she will be able to come home.
The specialist team is awaiting Justice to respond to treatment, for her levels to balance out, and then to observe that she can survive without intervention, to be able to rally on her own. All of this means continued hospitalization, and very unexpected and large medical bills for our family...
We ask for your prayers first and foremost, and if are able to help out financially, humbly, we thank you dearly - to ease this unexpected cost - it would mean so very much, along with your prayers and support.
Please feel free to share this on your socials and with your loved ones too!
We deeply hope and pray to bring our sweet Justi-Bear back home, safe and sound and healthy. Your loving "Papai", Mama and sister Liberty miss you so much!
We will send updates as we receive them.
Thank you so much everyone!
With much love and our thanks,
Mario, Cassie, Liberty & Justice ♡
