Help Bring Joy to Kids Sheltering in the Twin Cities

I am a Minneapolis-based illustrator/book designer raising funds to print a coloring/activity book for children sheltering from ICE in the Twin Cities.

The Coloring Book:
48 pages of beautiful, heartfelt, affirming artwork generously donated by artists and children's book illustrators in my immediate network. Many of the contributors are based in the Twin Cities, and the rest are either people with local connections or simply compassionate hearts and time. Some of them are immigrants themselves, and have requested anonymity for their own safety.

There are coloring pages, paper dolls, truly challenging puzzles, drawing guides, and several chickadees within this book.

I have already raised enough funds for the first round of printing, which has been paid for, is currently in production and will yield 1000 copies. I am fundraising for a second print run with a goal of printing 3000+ more copies.

The Need:
In sharing the news about this project, I was contacted by MANY people sharing stories of significantly more need than the first print run can meet.

From MPR News 1/28/26: "[...] the "indiscriminate nature" of ICE detentions are leading parents to keep students home rather than risk family separation. [...] Mayor Kaohly Her of St. Paul told MPR News on Monday that around 7,000 to 8,000 children in the city had opted to attend school remotely."

Mutual aid groups, parent organizations, schools, and social workers are widely expressing the need for creative activities for kids sheltering at home. Printing & distributing these Coloring Books will help lighten the load of these caregivers so they don't have to produce the resource themselves.

Your Donation
The per unit cost of printing one coloring book is about $2.50.

$25 = 10 coloring books
$50 = 20 coloring books
$100 = 40 coloring books

Thank you for your help.

P.S. Coloring books are irrelevant if kids aren't housed, fed, and safe with their families. If you have not donated to any Twin Cities relief funds yet, I encourage you to donate to a food shelf, a rent relief fund, or a legal representation fund first. And... hug your neighbor! A really big squeeze!

With my deepest gratitude,
Sara Fowler
