URGENT: Help bring José home. Recently, José was detained at a routine court appearance for an unrelated matter and is now being held at the McCook Detention Center. His case is coming up soon, and we are racing to make sure he has the legal representation he deserves. José is 32 years old. He is loved. He is intelligent. He is a valued and loved member of our Lincoln community. And right now, he needs us. This is not abstract. This is a real person, a real neighbor, a real Lincolnite, someone who has been here since he was a toddler and has known no other home than Nebraska, graduated from Lincoln High School and attended UNL. José is a part of the Lincoln running and arts communities, he is one of us.
He is facing a life-altering outcome without the legal support he needs and deserves. We have secured experienced legal representation for José, and believe he has a path forward - but we need your help. Every dollar gets us closer to fighting for José the way he deserves. He does not have any resources and needs us to show up for him. Please donate what you can. Share this post. Tag someone who believes in justice. Nebraska is José’s home. Let’s make sure he gets to stay.
All funds raised above the initial amount will go toward José’s ongoing legal costs, support his personal needs while he is being held in detention, and help him when he is able to return home. Thank you for helping!
