On Friday morning, August 22nd, around 6 am, Jose Garcia was taken by ICE on his way to work in Washington, DC. His family has not been notified of where he is being held and is still waiting for him to be processed to appear in any ICE database. His wife is an active community member, enriching our cultural parades with her bailes folkloricos along with her two daughters, who were born and raised in Prince George's County.

Jose came to this country to work to give a better life to his family and has been here for almost 20 years. He has no criminal history, yet he is being held like a criminal with no certainty of what will happen to him. Helen is left to locate her husband, obtain legal representation, and keep her two daughters housed, clothed, and fed, all the while, a new school year is starting soon.

The family is left without the primary breadwinner and is turning to their community for financial support as they navigate this overwhelming tragedy to cover legal fees and their daily needs while Jose is detained.
