Jose Francisco Salazar was a loving son, father, and brother who faced unimaginable pain after suffering severe burns in early November. Despite his strength and the efforts of his medical team, he endured multiple surgeries and fought bravely against a flesh-eating infection. Each day, we hoped for his recovery, but the complications became too much for his body to bear. Today, as he was preparing for another surgery, his heart stopped, and the doctors were unable to bring him back. Our family is heartbroken by this sudden loss.

His mother, son, and siblings are in Mexico, longing to say their final goodbyes and lay him to rest in his homeland. The cost of transporting his remains is more than our family can manage alone. My aunt, his mother, is unable to travel to the United States to claim his remains or make arrangements herself. She asked me to take care of everything for her, trusting me to honor her wishes and ensure her son is brought home. I feel a huge responsibility to fulfill her request, especially since Jose Francisco was in Phoenix, Arizona without any family nearby, and I am in California. I want to do everything I can to support my aunt and our family during this time.
