Bring Johny Home to His Family

Johny Merida, a father of three U.S.-born children, was detained by ICE despite having no criminal record and a valid work permit until 2029. His youngest son, Jair, is only five years old and battling brain cancer at CHOP. Since Johny’s detention, Jair is often refusing his life-saving feeds—he only wants his dad to feed him. Sending them back to Bolivia would put Jair’s life at serious risk, where pediatric cancer survival rates are far lower than in the U.S.

Johny’s wife, Gimena, is caring for their three children alone while also working with lawyers on a protected visa application. They have a strong legal case, but the process takes time—and meanwhile, the family is facing mounting financial stress. With their sole provider in detention, they are struggling to pay rent, keep food on the table, and cover everyday expenses while their son fights for his life.
