Our Story: My name is Melissa, and I am raising funds on behalf of my younger brother, Johan Efrain Sandoval Rodriguez.

Johan came to the United States from the Dominican Republic in 2021 to earn a college degree while playing the sport he loves - baseball. In 2024, he earned his Associate's from Bryant & Stratton with honors. Since then, he has been attending Savannah State University in pursuit of his second degree and a chance to play professional baseball. At Savannah State University, he volunteers within the local community, completed ROTC leadership training, and became a respected member of the university community. Those who know Johan describe him as humble, disciplined, compassionate, and deeply committed to his education.

On July 3, 2026, our family’s world changed.

Johan was unexpectedly detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) after issues arose concerning his F-1 student status. We are working diligently with Savannah State University, immigration professionals, and legal counsel to resolve his case and pursue every available legal avenue so that he can continue his education.

This has been an incredibly difficult and emotional experience for our family. Johan has no criminal history and has spent his time in the United States pursuing his education, serving his community, and striving toward a brighter future.

Today, our immediate priority is securing the financial resources necessary to help bring him home while his immigration case proceeds.

Why We Need Your Help

Funds raised will be used for:

1. Immigration bond (if one is granted)

2. Immigration attorney and legal representation

3. Court filing fees and USCIS application costs

4. Legal proceedings

5. Basic necessities while Johan’s case is pending

Any funds remaining after these immediate needs will be used exclusively to support Johan’s education and legal process.

Why This Matters

Johan is more than a student-athlete. He is a son, a brother, a mentor, and someone who has dedicated himself to becoming the first generation in our family to achieve many of his dreams through higher education.

Despite everything that has happened, he has never lost sight of why he came to the United States—to earn his degree and build a meaningful future. We believe everyone deserves the opportunity to have their case heard fairly and to continue pursuing their education when the law allows.
