It is with immense sadness that we share the unexpected passing of the much loved James "House" Kora, who died in Australia far from his homeland of Aotearoa (New Zealand). James was more than just a father, brother, son, and friend—he was the heart of his whānau, a man whose spirit touched everyone he met.

The Whanau (“family”) are now faced with the deeply emotional and financial burden of taking James home so he can be laid to rest among his ancestors and with the people he loved most. The complex process of repatriation and NZ funeral costs will be $20,000 and on behalf of the family we humbly ask for your help to return him to his tūrangawaewae—his true place to stand.

James leaves behind his sons who are now navigating life without their beloved father. In the days, months, and years ahead, they will need not only emotional support, but also practical help as they adjust to this new and painful reality. Part of the funds raised will go toward helping them build a future shaped by the strength and love their father instilled in them.

Your koha (“gift, donation”), no matter how small, will help cover the costs of repatriating James’ home to New Zealand, funeral expenses and then any remaining funds raised to go to his sons.

James had a way of making people feel seen and loved. He gave his heart generously, and now, we hope the community he cared so much for can help give him the dignified farewell he deserves.
