Help Bring Jaime Guzman Home to Guatemala

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Jaime Guzman my beloved uncle.

Jaime was born and raised in Guatemala, where he built a life grounded in service and love. He was a well-respected chief of police up until his retirement. He recently traveled to the United States to visit the final resting place of his beloved mother, who passed just over a year ago. Tragically, the day before his return to Guatemala, our family was struck by an unimaginable loss—Jaime passed away suddenly and unexpectedly.

He leaves behind his partner, Katerin Santizo and their daughters, Fatima Alejandra (9) and Katherin Gabriela (17); his children, Yahaira Guzman (48), Jaime A. Guzman (45), Evelyn Guzman (37) and Yasmin Guzman (34) from a prior marriage; his brother, Edgar Mayen; his sister, Violeta Mayen; and many aunties, uncles, nephews, nieces and cousins. He is preceded by his late mother, Julia Guzman Campos. The pain of losing him is immense, and the path forward is filled with heartbreak and uncertainty.

His passing is greatly impacting the lives of his youngest daughter’s, Katherin Gabriela (17) and Fatima Alejandra (9), who because of their age greatly depended on him.

We are raising funds to help cover the funeral and repatriation costs—estimated at $8,000 ($6,000 repatriation cost & $2,000 funeral and burial cost)—to bring Jaime home to Guatemala, where he can rest in peace. Any additional funds will go directly to his partner Katerin and their two youngest daughters, to help them through this incredibly difficult time and to allow them the time to grieve without the financial burden of his loss weighing heavy.

Con gran tristeza anunciamos el fallecimiento de Jaime Guzmán, mi querido tío.

Jaime nació en Guatemala, donde construyó una vida basada en servicio. Fue un jefe de policía muy respetado hasta su jubilación. Recientemente viajó a los Estados Unidos para visitar el lugar de descanso final de su querida madre, quien falleció hace poco más de un año. Trágicamente, un día antes de su regreso a Guatemala, nuestra familia sufrio una pérdida inimaginable: Jaime falleció de manera repentina e inesperada.

Deja atrás a su compañera, Katerin Santizo, y a sus hijas, Fátima Alejandra (9) y Katherin Gabriela (17); a sus hijos Yahaira Guzmán (48), Jaime A. Guzmán (45), Evelyn Guzmán (37) y Yasmin Guzmán (34) de un matrimonio anterior; a su hermano Edgar Mayen; a su hermana Violeta Mayen; y a muchas tías, tíos, sobrinos, sobrinas y primos que lo querían profundamente. Le precede en fallecimiento su madre, Julia Guzman Campos. El dolor por su partida es inmenso, y el camino que queda por delante está lleno de tristeza e incertidumbre.

Su partida ha afectado profundamente a sus hijas más pequeñas, Katherin Gabriela (17) y Fátima Alejandra (9), quienes, debido a su corta edad, dependían en gran medida de él.

Estamos recaudando fondos para cubrir los costos del funeral y la repatriación —estimados en $8,000 ($6,000 para la repatriación y $2,000 para el funeral y entierro)— para poder llevar a Jaime de regreso a Guatemala, donde pueda descansar en paz. Cualquier fondo adicional será entregado directamente a su compañera Katerin y a sus dos hijas menores, para ayudarlas a atravesar este momento tan difícil y permitirles vivir su duelo sin la carga económica que conlleva esta pérdida.
