Help us complete adoption to protect Isaiah

Hi, my name is Rebecca, and I’m asking for help during one of the hardest moments our family has ever faced. For the past 7 years, I have been the legal guardian of a little boy who has been with us since birth. He is not just a child in my care—he is my child in every way that matters. He has grown up in our home, surrounded by stability, love, and family. This is the only home he has ever truly known.

Recently, we traveled from Michigan to California so Isaiah could meet his fraternal aunt for the first time. When it was time to leave, she refused to give him back. She says he needs to be with blood. Although I believe staying connected with family is important, I say we are his family. Not by blood, but by love, care, and 7 years of being his only parents he has ever known. This isn’t about conflict—it’s about a child who deserves stability, continuity, and the home he has always known. He has no history or bond with this family, and this sudden separation has been extremely traumatic for him. Despite having legal guardianship paperwork, the police in California would not honor it, even after speaking to CPS in Michigan. I was forced to return home without my child so CPS could investigate the false allegations she made, claiming she “had to do what she had to so she could keep him.” Both Michigan CPS and the Detective on the case are confused as to why they have not returned him even when asked to do so. Now she is taking me to court very soon to keep him forever.

Our only goal is to bring Isaiah back home where he feels safe, secure, and loved. Unfortunately, the legal process is expensive. I urgently need to retain a California attorney to fight for my son’s return and ensure his best interests are protected in court. I do not have the funds for any of this, and we do not qualify for other help. Every dollar will go into an attorney to bring Isaiah home where he belongs. If there is anything left, it will go into his adoption so this can’t happen again. Any donation, share, or prayer means more than words can express. If you’re unable to give, simply sharing this fundraiser can help us reach someone who can. Thank you for reading, for caring, and for helping us bring our child home.
