Help Bring Two Indigenous Children to Safety

We need your help!

Two young Indigenous girls - both under age 10 - are living in fear and distress with their father who has a history of sexual, physical and emotional abuse, and is unable to meet their needs. They are facing numerous physical health issues as a result. The children are currently located in another province, but a family member in BC is ready to take them.

To bring the two children to safety, our goal is to raise funds that will facilitate their immediate removal from their father and provide them with the support and care they desperately need. Donations will allow their family member to cover the legal fees to obtain guardianship and provide safe housing and ongoing care.

The family member in BC is actively trying to gain custody as fast as possible through private legal entities to avoid long public resource waitlists due to the urgency of the situation. This includes fees to petition the court, retaining a lawyer who will charge for legal correspondence, research, and paperwork, and an increased retainer if it goes to trial ($325/hour). There are also ongoing financial needs associated with relocation and protection, as well as assessments and online/homeschooling for ASD/FASD.

Expense break-down:

$3000 X2 = $6000 (ASD/FASD diagnoses/designations)

$3000 (last minute flights, including one round-trip for someone to accompany the girls)

$325 X 12 hours (estimate) = $3900 (legal fees)

$1100 = childcare costs (extra mouths to feed, camp/activities/homeschooling, clothing etc.)
