Nearly three years ago, while I was homeless and pregnant, my 2-year-old cat Indie disappeared just six days before I was able to regain housing. At the time, Indie had just completed all her vet work and a recent spay, which meant she could join me in our supportive housing program. Losing her during such a vulnerable time was heartbreaking, and I never stopped hoping she would come back to me. Three weeks after Indie went missing, my son was born, and life moved forward, but there was always a space in our family where Indie belonged.

Today, against all odds, Indie has been found alive. During her time away, a kind elderly man took her in and cared for her. Now, he is in a nursing home, and his son has reached out to let me know Indie is safe. Before she can come home, Indie needs some minor vet care, including vaccinations and dewormer. The man's son has covered these costs and is asking to be reimbursed so he can help his father get settled in his new home. Bringing Indie back means reuniting our family and restoring the comfort and support she has always given me as my registered emotional support animal.
