Hi! I'm Royce Haddock, and I am the director and writer of the story Incoherent. Incoherent is a student-made, self-funded short film created at Loyola Marymount University’s School of Film and Television.
The film follows a father who is forced to face his past experiences and unresolved guilt and learn to grow from them. After experiencing one of the most tragic events one could ever find themselves within, 10 years later, Abel is still haunted by its lasting presence—a presence that prevents him from ever fully connecting with his daughter, and from being an active participant in his own life again. But on one climactic night, all of his unresolved feelings finally catch up to him—and threaten the life of his only child.
This is a story about coming to terms with unresolved grief and trauma. It’s about recognizing the barriers it has formed that prevent you from fully connecting with your loved ones in the ways you want to, and finally learning to move forward from the lasting presence it has had on your life. Incoherent seeks to tell a story of perseverance.
As the creator of this story, your support directly allows me to bring my vision to life. Your donations will go towards my production by helping us fully set our scenes, feed our team, and create a level of quality that the story deserves. By contributing, you are supporting student filmmakers and helping amplify a story that needs to be told—one centered on a Black family, dealing with universal themes we can all deeply connect with.
A story that can be told by each of us, father or not, about our own personal journeys through mental health, grief, and the power that lies within our connections to others. Thank you greatly for your support!
