My name is Cassandra, and I am reaching out during the most difficult time of my life. My mother, Ilda Marcos-Hernandez, was only 52 years old when she passed away from a heart attack in 2026. She was a two-time cancer survivor, bravely fighting through treatments from 2019 to 2026, and she faced every challenge with incredible strength and hope. The past seven years have been especially hard for my mom—she lost her father, several siblings, and her spouse, all while battling her own illnesses. Despite her own health battles and the grief of losing so many loved ones, my mom was always the one supporting our family, both emotionally and financially. She was everything to me, and I am her only child. My father passed away in 2021, and now I am left to honor my mother’s final wish: to return her to her homeland in Mexico, where she can rest in peace with her family. Last year, she was able to see her mother after more than 20 years apart, a moment that meant the world to her. Now, I am working to give her the farewell she deserves, but I am facing this alone and need help to make it possible. The funds raised will go toward funeral expenses here in the US and in Mexico, as well as the cost of transporting her from Guadalajara, Jalisco to her hometown in Michoacan. Any support is deeply and greatly appreciated. I know a lot of people may feel bad for me and may ask what I need, but I truthfully just need for my mom to make it back home. I never got the chance to give back my mom everything she deserved. She saw me graduate from Austin Peay with my bachelor’s degree, and I wish she could have seen me continue and further my career as I had planned for this year, but things changed. I also plan to return to Mexico to stay with my grandmother for a while, to find hope and strength before coming back to continue building my life.
