Meet my Successor Service Dog in Training, Blaze!

*We ask that you please pray and share in our excitement as Alan, Mocha, and I start this new fundraising journey*

As most of you may or may not know, Alan and I have been in constant prayer over what we should do regarding Mocha’s successor dog. If I’m being completely honest, I’m not sure how Alan’s alone time prayers went, but all I was praying for was an answer that was clear to me. Essentially a brick to the face. After our lovely upcoming VN director prayed over 10,000 burning bushes for me, I took that to heart and began to legitimately pray for the Lord to give me 10,000 burning bushes. That way my answer would be very clear. The very next day at work, I was taking a picture of a lot of 10 plates. One of those 10 plates was Moses and the burning bush. Even though that might have been an answer, I didn’t see it as one in the beginning. I just thought that God was trying to be funny and it was His way of showing me that He was listening. After this I later found out that the trainer chose to keep two puppies from her two most recent litters instead of one. This decision happened on a Sunday and on that Monday a family put down a deposit and contract. I find this part significant because if she would have only kept one puppy, the time frame would be even longer. After all, everything does go in accordance with God’s timing. Now we fast forward to the week of June 26th. On Sunday at the end of church in my pew, I specifically prayed for God to open my eyes, ears, heart, and mind to His answer and help me understand it in the way that He wants me to. Because I know getting an answer in a super simple way is not the way God works. On the following Monday I decided to ask if the unspoken pup had been spoken for yet and the answer was no. Then there was mention of training the yellow lab for epilepsy and the black lab for diabetes. When I found that out, I thought to myself if I had a say so, that would make me happy because black fur isn’t as noticeable as yellow. Then I was told what her son’s suggested name for the black lab was. Blaze…… blaze… fire… burn… burning bush… To add even more to it, at that point in time the yellow lab was 10 weeks old born on April 13th and the black lab was 7 weeks old, born on May 12th. May 12th also happens to be my birthday. Another thing that gave me a giant wave of peace is the fact that Blaze’s trainer and Mocha’s trainer are really good friends and share the same training techniques. So to find someone who had that close of a connection was like a breath of fresh air. After much prayer, we believe that this was the 10,000 burning bushes and bricks in the face I was praying for. We just didn’t know what the end answer would look like. Alan and I are stepping out in faith and trusting God. We believe He will make a way for a financial pathway to be made. It will take a lot of work, but we are speaking life into successful fundraisers to bring Blaze home. We are asking you all to join us in praying over this situation. We believe in the power of prayer.

Alan and I met Miss Blaze in person the weekend of July 22nd. She had a sleepover with us that Friday night and her and Mocha got along with each other really well. She is currently 12 weeks old and is already so relaxed when introduced to new situations. It will take an average of 18 months for Blaze to complete her training and come home forever. Blaze will be helping me with more than just my type one diabetes. She is also learning tasks to help with POTS/Dysautonomia and PTSD.

As most of our friends and family know, Mocha has been my medical alert service dog and best friend since June 2014. She has given me the independence to live my life to the fullest and much more. That said, Mocha is almost 9 years old and by the time Blaze completes her training, she will be close to 11 and ready for more leisurely days and doggie retirement. Mocha is not going anywhere. She will get to live the pet life with Alan and me.
