Help Bring Gregorio Home to His Family
Our beloved friend and neighbor, Gregorio, has been unjustly detained by ICE, and now he urgently needs our help. He is a friend of ours and a fellow volunteer at Migrant Solidarity Mutual Aid.
Gregorio is more than just a father and grandfather—he’s the heart of his family and a valued member of our community. He’s the familiar face at community events: our Christmas party Santa Claus, the pitcher at our kids’ baseball games, the regular volunteer who delivers food and furniture to neighbors in need. His heart, humor, and commitment to giving back have won him the love and support of many in his community.
Now, Gregorio needs us.
Over the past year, Gregorio and his family have endured repeated trauma. His son and daughter-in-law were detained by ICE on three separate occasions, twice in front of their young children, who now live in fear at the sound of sirens. For months, Gregorio fought for their release—advocating for his loved ones and helping to secure legal aid for them. Ultimately three different judges in three different states declared their detention unlawful and ordered them released. But their legal battle is far from over and continues to place emotional and financial strain on the whole family.
Now, after everything he’s done to keep his family together, Gregorio himself has been taken—separated from the family he worked so hard to protect.
His bond hearing is coming up next week. To give him the best chance at freedom, we are urgently raising $6,000 (or more) to cover his bond and legal expenses, as requested by his attorney. We will also be using funds to help him get a hotel room and flight home from Arizona where he was transferred. Sharon H, a fellow friend of Gregorio and volunteer with us both, will be helping withdraw the funds to get them to him.
Gregorio has lived and worked in the D.C. area for years, holding multiple jobs to support his family. He had lawful status under Temporary Protected Status (TPS) until it was abruptly and unjustly revoked during the Trump administration. He also has a pending asylum case due to his outspoken opposition to the authoritarian regime in his home country.
Right now, his teenage son is waiting for his dad to come home. His partner and grandchildren miss him deeply. His whole community is rallying to bring him back.
Let’s show Gregorio the same love and support he’s always shown us.
Please donate if you can, and share this message with others who might be able to help. Every dollar brings Gregorio closer to home.
