Dear friends, family, and kind strangers,
We are reaching out to you with a heavy heart and a plea for help. Our 90-year-old mother/grandmother, Laura, the matriarch of our family, has been abruptly uprooted from her home due to dangerous gas leaks. The gas company identified the leaks on her side of the line, leaving her responsible for the costly repairs before the service can be restored.
Thankfully, by some divine intervention, our mother/grandmother and aunts escaped a potential tragedy. Upon further inspection, the gas leak was discovered in two other areas of the house, and it has become unsafe for them to live in. With winter in full force, the cold weather has made it impossible for them to return home with no heat.
As a result, our mother/grandmother and aunts have been displaced and are currently living with their granddaughter/daughter. The emotional toll of this situation is immeasurable. Our family has deep roots in this house, affectionately known as the "Big House," where we've gathered for family reunions and made cherished memories for over 65 years. Unfortunately, two different contractors have said that the house should be torn down and rebuilt, due to how old the house is and the structural damage.
Laura has been a mother to many. She raised 7 children and even helped raise her sister’s children when she passed away. She has welcomed countless families, friends, and even strangers into her home where they only feel the love that she so effortlessly gives. She has been cooking for the community and for anyone who has an appetite for as long as most people have been living. At 89, Laura is still cooking for family gatherings and our annual family reunion, which takes place at the “Big House”, even though everyone has told her we can takeover from here.
Being displaced has also taken an immense toll on my aunt, who is bravely battling cancer. The uncertainty and stress of being uprooted from the home she has spent most of her life has added an extra layer of hardship to her already challenging journey. The stability and familiarity of her home has been an anchor through her health struggles, and the current situation has only amplified the emotional and physical strain she faces.
Your support in helping us restore our mother’s/grandmother's home is not only a means of providing shelter, but it also a source of solace and strength for my aunt as she fights this difficult battle.
Our mother’s/grandmother's home is a living testament to the love and memories that have shaped our family for generations. The walls, adorned from floor to ceiling with years of photographs, encapsulate the cherished moments and milestones that have woven the tapestry of our family's story. Each picture tells a tale of love, laughter, and resilience, which creates a warm embrace of memories that have stood the test of time.
The thought of tearing down the house, which holds so much sentimental value, is heart-wrenching for all of us. We are facing the daunting task of rebuilding and providing a safe home for our beloved mother/grandmother to live out her days in comfort and security.
Your donations will go directly towards the costs of repairing the gas leaks, addressing the structural damage, rebuilding a new home, and ensuring that our mother/grandmother can return to the place she holds so dear. Every contribution will make a meaningful difference in our journey to bring Laura back home.
We are humbly asking for your support, no matter how big or small, to help us raise the funds needed to rebuild Laura’s home. As we approach her 90th birthday in June, our greatest wish is to see her back in the home she cherishes so deeply, surrounded by the love and memories that have shaped our family for generations.
Thank you for taking the time to read our story and for considering a donation. Your kindness and generosity will help us turn this difficult chapter into a story of hope and resilience.
With heartfelt gratitude,
Ms. Laura’s Children and Grandchildren
