Our wonderfully sweet goat named Goose became quite sick early Thursday morning. We rushed him to UC Davis Large Animal Hospital, where they know and love him. The vet is still running tests but indications are that he was given something poisonous to eat, quite possibly oleander. We do have oleander on the property but it is a very long distance away from his stall and barn. Goats can eat many kinds of things, but there are a few plants that will cause major illness and even death, and oleander is one of those plants. He is in a guarded state currently - hydrated and filled with plenty of activated charcoal so the toxins are being flushed, but now suffering from secondary intestinal issues, an infection, and no appetite. I was hoping to bring him home on Saturday, but the infection is quite severe so he will be staying an extended time at UC Davis. You all know what a love he is, so all the technicians spend extra time petting him and giving him scratches, and he will come home very spoiled, but it is very quiet without him, and he is an older guy so this kind of illness is hard on him.
if you can help out a bit with his stay at the vet, it would be much appreciated!
