Help Bring Ena and Caleb Home

Donation protected

On the evening of Dec. 28, our son Brian was driving up from NC to spend the new year with his  son in NY. Unfortunately, he was in a terrible crash on I-270 near Hyattstown, Maryland. A bystander opened the door to check on Brian, and Ena (a chocolate lab) and Caleb (a black pitbull) jumped from the truck and escaped, frightened, down the highway.

Search efforts were almost immediately underway via posts on social media, and several news outlets have covered this story — a story of so many amazing helpers coming to Brian’s aid at the crash and since then to reunite the dogs with him. It has been especially difficult for his son Kyle, as Caleb was his dog.

Brian is currently using a rental vehicle as his truck was totaled. He is returning to Maryland to help with the ongoing search, and we are concerned about his traveling expenses building up, as well as possible vet bills for the dogs when they are found (Ena was spotted limping and could be injured), as well as the needs of the Lost Animals Resource Group (LARG) who has been volunteering their time and expertise and support around the clock. We can’t thank them enough, but we want to try. We absolutely feel we owe them the world for being angels in this awful situation and so they can continue doing this for other lost animals.

We are in awe of the outpouring of support of the community and people around the country. So many strangers just wanting to help. While we are continuing to ask people to keep their eyes out for sightings and report them immediately, we also ask that no one goes out searching on their own, as LARG has a plan in place and we can’t disturb their efforts or scare the dogs into the highway. We will post updates here as they come in.

Brian is a first responder himself and is used to being on the other side of terrible situations... he and our family can’t thank everyone enough for their help.
