Derek Schaff, a Gillette resident, has been missing since June 15, 2026. His truck was found abandoned and high-centered in the Weston Hills area, leaving his family with unanswered questions and growing concern each day.
The first search for Derek was led by the Campbell County Sheriff’s Posse. When those efforts ended, WyoFind was invited to step in at the family’s request and with the blessing of the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office to continue the search. Since then, multiple searches have been conducted, including the most recent on August 16 and 17, which brought together trained teams from Wyoming, North Dakota, Colorado, and Montana.
Every search requires resources. To bring in the teams who are able to help, WyoFind covers hotel rooms, fuel, and meals while they are here assisting in the effort to locate Derek. Because the terrain in the Weston Hills area is rough and dangerous, this next search will be limited to trained SAR teams and fully certified K9 units only. Safety has to come first.
WyoFind is a volunteer-run, donation-funded nonprofit and every donation helps us continue these search efforts and bring in the resources needed to keep moving forward. Your support will help us bring back the teams who have already committed their time and expertise, and it will help us take the next step toward bringing Derek home to his family.
Please consider donating and sharing this campaign. Every contribution makes a difference, and every step forward matters.
All information from search efforts will be shared by the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office.
