Help Bring Dad Home: Hit-and-Run Motorbike Accident Abroad
Donation protected
Dear Friends, Family, and Generous Supporters,
We're reaching out to you today with a plea straight from our hearts as our world has been turned upside down. Our dear dad, Chhai Sok, was supposed to be enjoying his retirement after working tirelessly for over 50 years. He should have been exploring and cherishing life's moments. But instead, he faced a devastating hit-and-run motorbike accident on April 2 while visiting family in Cambodia.
The accident, initially dismissed as minor by medical officials in Cambodia, revealed more serious injuries later as his consciousness deteriorated. Dad suffered a brain hemorrhage, and it took too long for anyone to recognize the severity of his condition. By the time a relative suggested he be taken to a hospital in Thailand, precious time had already slipped away.
Now, Dad has undergone extensive surgeries, including an evacuation of his brain bleed and a tracheostomy placement. He is currently fighting for his life in the Intensive Care Unit at Bangkok Hospital Chanthaburi, facing a daunting road of recovery filled with unknown challenges.
The dreams Dad had for his retirement have been shattered, replaced by mounting medical bills and uncertainty about what lies ahead. Instead of embracing this new chapter of life with joy, he's fighting a battle far from home without his children by his side. Your support in this critical time will not only aid in Dad's medical journey but will also offer solace and hope to our family as we navigate through this trying situation.
How You Can Help:
We're reaching out to our community, hoping to rally support to bring Dad back home where he belongs. Your donations will directly contribute to covering the overwhelming costs of medical care, repatriation, and any necessary accommodations for his journey back to familiar surroundings and the care of loved ones. No donation is too small; every bit helps to make a difference in Dad's journey to recovery.
Please understand that our dad did not have traveler's insurance for this trip due to his advanced age and the high cost of insurance premiums he faced in previous years. This annual trip to Cambodia was an important tradition for him.
Currently, the quoted cost of a repatriation flight to bring him back home is $50,000. Additionally, since his admission to Chanthaburi Hospital on April 4th, the medical bills are rapidly accumulating each day, with the first day alone costing $14,000 USD (approximately $18,900 CAD. These staggering expenses highlight the urgent need for financial support to ensure his safe return and ongoing medical care.
Even if you're unable to contribute financially, sharing our story on social media can make a huge difference. Your share could be the lifeline that connects us with someone who can help bring Dad home safely.
For those who prefer to donate directly to the family, you may send an e-transfer to Nath Sok and we will add you as an Offline Donation where you may publicly display your donation or remain anonymous.
Why It Matters:
Dad isn’t just a victim of an accident; he's our pillar, our mentor, and our source of love and strength. Bringing him home isn't just about physical recovery; it's about surrounding him with the warmth and comfort of family and friends as he fights this battle. Your generosity will not only alleviate the financial burden but will also be a ray of hope for Dad and our family during this challenging time.
With Gratitude:
We extend our deepest gratitude to each and every one of you who chooses to stand with us in support of Dad. Your kindness, compassion, and generosity mean the world to us as we work tirelessly to bring him back home where he belongs.
Thank you for your unwavering support, your prayers, and your belief in the power of community to uplift and heal in times of need.
With heartfelt thanks,
Chanthorn Sok, Nath Sok, Phalla Sok, & Phan Yun
