In the isolated landscape of upstate New York, struggling author Micah Lichtbaum's fragile peace shatters when he becomes the sole caretaker of his estranged and disturbed older brother, Parker, kept docile only by heavy medication. What begins as silence and avoidance transforms into something far more unsettling, as Parker's presence seeps into Micah's mind, paralyzing his creativity and unraveling his sense of reality. Desperate for distraction and comfort, Micah invites his girlfriend and editor, Norah, to stay—hoping she can help resuscitate both his writing and his sanity. But some presences can't be escaped.

What inspired Ezra, the director, most was the complexities of brotherhood and the responsibilities it demands. As the oldest of three boys, Ezra understands deeply how brotherhood can be a thoroughly fulfilling yet burdensome experience; regardless of your situation, an obligation to your siblings' livelihood often takes priority above all else. Ezra wanted to write a story that tested the limits of familial obligation, putting the protagonist through an unimaginably difficult situation while still feeling responsible for the very catalyst of their suffering. This film is an agonizing, dreamlike, and somewhat absurdist psychological thriller. It is controlled and atmospheric, creating a building sense of intense paranoia. Ezra hopes that audiences will be affected by this film—unable to separate themselves from it, like an emotionally resonant bad dream.

To bring 'Cold Stew' to life, Ezra and the team need your support. Funds raised will cover actor costs, legal fees for employment agreements, equipment rentals, transportation to remote locations, production design, props, wardrobe, meals for cast and crew, and festival submission fees. Without fundraising, this film cannot be made. The team is pouring everything they have into the project, but student budgets can only stretch so far. Your support will help cover these essential costs and ensure this meaningful story reaches audiences. Please consider donating and sharing to help make 'Cold Stew' a reality.
