For Chris and her family
On Sunday, September 20, 2026, Chris was on vacation in Utah with her family when everything changed within 24 hours. After becoming gravely ill, Chris was airlifted from Panguitch, Utah, to Intermountain Health St. George Regional Hospital, where she is now in the ICU. Chris has been diagnosed with NMOSD, or Neuromyelitis Optica Spectrum Disorder, a rare autoimmune condition. What began with severe pain in her legs, thighs, and hips quickly worsened. Within hours, Chris developed difficulty breathing, and a CT scan revealed fluid in her lungs. She was then diagnosed with bacterial pneumonia. Her doctors believe that while her body was fighting the infection, her immune system also began attacking her spinal cord, with inflammation spreading to her brainstem. Chris is now paralyzed, in a coma, and dependent on a ventilator.
Despite five days of high-dose steroid treatments and three plasmapheresis treatments so far, Chris has shown no signs of improvement. Being nearly 1,700 miles from home and far from family, friends, and her support system has made this heartbreaking situation even harder. This fundraiser is to help Chris and her family with the cost of medical transport back to Wisconsin when, and if, she becomes medically stable enough to travel. Insurance has declined coverage for this transport, and the cost may exceed $50,000. Please keep Chris and her family in your thoughts and prayers during this devastating medical crisis. Any donation or share would mean so much as they face the days ahead far from home.
