Help Bring Choppa Home!! Justice for a Beloved Family Dog

Goal: $2,000

On April 3, Choppa, a sweet and deeply loved family dog, was taken from his home and placed into custody by Animal Control in the Town of Greece, NY. He’s been held ever since, separated from the only family he’s ever known.

What happened? Choppa was startled during a walk when another dog — left outside unattended in a shared yard — suddenly approached in the dark. Instinctively, Choppa reacted to protect himself and his owner, Candice Holmes. There were no prior incidents. No history of aggression. Just a dog trying to navigate a confusing and frightening situation.

But now, Choppa has been labeled “dangerous,” and Candice has been forced to fight a legal battle to save her best friend.

When attorney Matt Albert saw Candice crying in the courthouse lobby a month ago, he learned she was there trying to save Choppa — and losing hope. That’s when he stepped in. Together with Against All Oddz Animal Alliance, Matt took on the case pro bono.

Originally, the costs and fines were going to be so steep that Choppa would not have been released. Still, the Town is imposing fines and conditions for Choppa’s release — hurdles very difficult for someone from a low-income background to overcome. And now, to make matters worse, Candice is facing possible eviction — even though this entire incident stemmed from her neighbor’s negligence.

We’re asking for your help to raise $2,000 to cover:

Choppa’s mandatory neuter surgery.

Boarding costs from the Town required for his release.

Emergency support for housing stability for Candice and Choppa.

Any funds raised beyond this goal will go toward helping other families in low-income communities who are fighting to save their beloved dogs in similar legal battles.

We’re not saying this is about race. We’re not saying it’s about breed bias. But we are saying that without Against All Oddz and Matt Albert stepping in, this would have ended very differently — and not in Choppa’s favor.

Choppa is family and he deserves to go home.
