Help Bring Carlos Mercado Home

On July 5, 2025, my cousin Carlos Mercado was tragically killed in a hit and run while changing a flat tire on the freeway near Denver, CO. Carlos was a devoted husband to Patricia Melendez and a loving father to Perla, Carlos, and Jorge Melendez. He had just retired from the General Hospital IMSS in Ciudad Juarez, MX, where he was known for his dedication, kindness, and passion for helping others. His sudden loss has left his family heartbroken and facing unexpected challenges far from home.


Carlos was struck by a black Toyota 4Runner, whose driver fled the scene without offering help. Now, his family is left to navigate not only their grief but also the complex and costly process of bringing Carlos back to Ciudad Juarez for a proper farewell. The expenses include transporting his body across the border, paying vehicle impound fees, and covering travel costs for Patricia and their children so they can return home together. These costs are overwhelming for the family, who are already dealing with unimaginable loss.
