Help bring Cangoo home: a rescue Dog's journey

For the past 6 months, I have been fostering a 10-year-old rescue dog named Cangoo at an animal rescue sanctuary in Tenerife. During this time, we’ve formed an incredible bond, and we’ve become an amazing team. Cangoo has become a part of my heart, and I can't imagine my life without him. As I am leaving the sanctuary where I've volunteereed the past 6months, I'm working to bring him with me, where he will finally be able to have a safe and loving forever home.

The journey to get him there comes with a significant financial cost. I want to avoid putting Cangoo in a small-sized kennel during the trip, as it would be stressful for him, which unfortunately adds on. The ferry ride alone with a Dog will be over 400€, and I will need to rent a car to transport him - also the fuel of course and potential overnight stays to allow me sufficient pause on the road from driving.

I estimate that 1000€ will be enough to cover the entire cost of the journey, and every cent will go directly towards Cangoo’s wellfare. If there happens to be any leftover funds, they will still go toward his continued care and well-being!

The trip is supposed to happen in April or May.

Update 27/03:

My travel plans have changed a bit as I’ve now decided to pick up my old car so that I won’t need to rent one after the ferry ride. This way, I’ll have my own transportation for later on. We will then stay in Spain for the time being, meaning once I pick up my car, I’ll have secured transportation for the rest of the journey. Public transportation in Spain is also difficult with a dog, so getting the car makes the most sense.

The car will be taken to France (Lyon), so I’ll fly there (without Cangoo), pick up the car, and then drive it down. I still need to book accommodations for the journey, but I’ve already booked a flight to Nice and a train to Lyon (since the flight directly to Lyon was too expensive). From there, I’ll drive down to southern Spain, leave the car at the ferry terminal, and then take a train (still to be booked) to Malaga to catch a flight to the airport. After that, I’ll fly back to Tenerife to pick up Cangoo, and we’ll take the ferry together. I’ve now opted for the more affordable ferry option, which involves sleeping on the dog deck.

Here’s the breakdown of my current costs:

Tenerife – Nice flight: 212.58 €

Train Nice – Lyon: 83.00 €

Malaga – Tenerife flight: 44.01 €

Ferry Tenerife – Spain Mainland with Cangoo: 193.85 €

Total so far: 533.44
