Help Bring Brook Home

Donation protected
Both the Morneau and Gavan families are heartbroken to share that Brook Morneau passed away unexpectedly on March 8, 2026 while on vacation with the Gavan family in the Dominican Republic. She was only 24 years old.

What began as Brook suddenly feeling unwell turned into every family’s worst nightmare. On March 7, 2026 Brook woke up with an illness, from there her fiance took her to the medic on resort, who then advised she be taken to the Dominican hospital. Once at the hospital she was advised to be held overnight for monitoring, which turned into an ICU stay, and she passed away the next day March 8, 2026, less than 48 hours after being admitted. Everything happened so fast that we are struggling to process the shock and pain of losing her.

We are raising $25,000 to help bring Brook home to Canada and give her the memorial she deserves. Insurance covered the hospital expenses, but the cost of bringing her home, funeral expenses, and her headstone must be paid out of pocket. At this time, the estimated costs are approximately $13,000 to bring her home and another $15,000 for funeral expenses and her headstone.

One of the hardest parts of this tragedy is knowing that Brook passed away far from home. Her parents could not be with her in those final moments because she was in another country. No family should ever have to experience that kind of heartbreak.

Brook was kind, caring, brave, beautiful, and funny. She was the kind of person who was easy to talk to, easy to love, and impossible to forget. She had a presence about her. She was goofy, full of life, always adding to the conversation, and from the moment we got to know her, she instantly felt like part of our family.

She was a fiancée, a daughter, a sister, a friend, and someone who truly changed Devon’s life. They had been together for three years and were supposed to get married this October. Anyone who saw them together could see how much love they shared. She brought so much confidence, happiness, and love into his life. They were always together, holding hands, so alike in so many ways, and truly made for each other.

Brook was also a nurse, which says so much about the person she was. Caring for others wasn’t just something she did, it was who she was. She loved deeply, cared deeply, and made life better for the people around her.

She found joy in the little things: pink drinks from Starbucks, an ice-cold Coke, and McDonald’s chicken nuggets. She loved music, especially Taylor Swift and Freddie Mercury, and could always be found enjoying reality TV. Her two pugs, Daisy and Westley, meant the world to her, and she adored the people she loved most.

Brook was warm, funny, and full of heart. She was the kind of person who left a lasting impact on everyone lucky enough to know her.
This fundraiser is to help bring Brook home and give her the memorial she deserves. While our goal is $25,000, the total costs may be even higher. Every donation will go toward helping both families carry this financial burden during an unimaginable time of grief.

If you knew Brook, then you know how special she was. If you did not know her personally, we hope you can still see the kind of person she was and the love she brought into this world. Any donation, no matter the amount, would mean more than we can say. Please share this page so we can bring Brook home and honour her memory the way she deserves.

Thank you for your love, support, and kindness during this devastating time.
