Help bring BroadMinded Women over 40 Revue to Detroit!

Donation protected
It's time to showcase DETROIT's performing women over 40!

I founded "BroadMinded: Women Over 40 Revue" in San Francisco, in 2016, as a way to honor my transition into my 40s—and to defy messages encouraging women to hide our age. Now, I want to bring BroadMinded back home to DETROIT in April, 2026, to launch the transition into my 50s!

BroadMinded debuted to national acclaim; the west coast cast has been featured in Vice, Huffington Post, and SF Weekly. This time, we will showcase the women of Detroit, where I was born and where my 20-plus-year hoop dance career was also born!

GOALS FOR FUNDS

I'm launching this fundraiser in April, 2025, on my 49th birthday, and giving myself a year to produce this show in time for my 50th. I'm already in discussion with a Detroit-area venue that's close to my heart, and in talks with some fab Detroit women artists. The final details will be announced over the coming months. Here is where fundraising comes in:

  • Paying older women artists what they deserve. Fundraising ahead of time will help me ensure, even without the unknowns around ticket sales, that I can guarantee a decent wage.

  • Creating a sister relationship between 40-plus women artists in Detroit and on the west coast. If I can raise enough, it's possible that I may be able to bring out a couple older women performers from the original west coast BroadMinded cast. I've benefitted so much from forging my performance career in Detroit, and then also making connections on the west coast when I moved to California in my 30s. I want the women who perform in this show to have that connection between Detroit and the west coast, so opportunities that happen in both places can open up. This is about expanding community for older women artists and having each other's backs.

  • Not burning out. I have a lot of skills. I also do communications for a living, and for the west coast BroadMinded, I wrote the press release, built the website, did all the media outreach, handled all the social media, made all the graphics, produced the show (with one million associated emails), emceed the show, and performed in the show, while also working full time. Ask me how I did it; I do not know! Maybe I can afford some help this time.

When women are told our highest value lies in our appearance, and by association, our youth, the years beyond 40 are supposed to be a slip into irrelevance. But BroadMinded has no time to pay attention to ageism/sexism because we're too busy being badass at skills decades in the making.

Why this show is critical

I know there is a lot happening in the world right now, and I am moving forward with this show because we need reasons to maintain our joy—and women over 40 deserve to be seen and to have our voices heard. It's important to know that when the culture says, "Nah, you're irrelevant after a certain age," we don't have to listen. We can make our OWN space, and pack that space with people who are cheering their heads off to see the kind of lineup they WISH they saw regularly.

We're here to let younger folks know that women don't have to aspire backward in time. We can stay vibrant, relevant, creative, and on stage forever. Friends far and wide, anything you can give to lift up women over 40 in DETROIT will be greatly appreciated and well put to use.
