Bean's Long Term Care

Donation protected
A little more than five years ago we rescued two dogs, Bean and Seamus.  They are best friends and are inseparable. They play together, they sleep together, and they are a big part of our family.

Two weeks ago, Bean, our white lab-husky mix, became extremely ill and had to be rushed to the emergency room. He had an infection that had overtaken his body and was listed in critical condition. Thankfully, the doctors were able to stabilize him, and he was sent home within a few days.

Unfortunately, Bean never fully recovered and this morning the vet told us to bring him back to the emergency room. We waited in the parking lot for hours to learn that Bean has developed a disease called IMHA (Immune-Mediated Hemolytic Anemia). It is a condition where the body’s immune system attacks and destroys the red blood cells. From that he has developed a heart murmur, anemia, his vital signs are low, and he will be staying a few days at the ER in critical care. As of this afternoon he was beginning his first (of what could be multiple) blood transfusion.

Currently, we are at $7,800 in medical care and depending on how the next couple days go, after the transfusion, we could see up to another $4,000 in medical expenses. There is a good chance that Bean can recover with treatment and live a longer life. We certainly wouldn’t take such drastic measures if there wasn’t hope for his survival and quality of life.

As a Marine, I am not comfortable asking for help, let alone donations; I would much prefer to be helping others. With me being out of work for almost a year, the possibility of affording this is impossible, but Bean deserves the opportunity to have a life.  We cannot lose him.

We appreciate any donation that you can make and it will go towards Bean’s medical care.

Thank you.
