My husband, Joe, had a sudden stroke and emergency craniotomy on March 13, 2020. After months of recovery and searching for the cause, they finally found an AVM on the left side of his brain. He had another craniotomy and 10 hour brain surgery on November 12, 2020. He has spent the last year attending hours of therapy each day and working his way back. He has a right vision field cut and right side nerve pain, but his greatest challenge is his language. Joe suffers from Aphasia, a communication disorder. His neurosurgeon has called him a miracle.
Recently, Joe was accepted to The University of Michigan Aphasia Program in Ann Arbor, Michigan. This program is a highly individualized, intensive aphasia therapy program that is over 80 years old. People have come from all over the world to receive this therapy. Joe will receive 5 hours of intensive therapy a day and 1 hour of group therapy each day. Joe's therapist say this is the perfect time in Joe's recovery process for him to attend the program. His health is stable, the cause found, and his language continues to improve each day. The funds from this GoFundMe will help offset the cost of the month long program and our housing as we attend the program. Caregivers are required to attend the program, so I will be staying with Joe and attending classes of my own.
We thank each of you for all of your support and love through this recovery process. Our love to all!
