Hi, I'm Andrew's sister, Erica.
In February, Andrew traveled with his entire family to Mumbai, India, to celebrate his brother Steve’s wedding. It was a joyful, unforgettable experience—one where Andrew proudly served as best man. Tragically, the day after the wedding festivities, Andrew became suddenly and severely ill. He was quickly hospitalized with a dangerous strep infection and went into septic shock.
Despite expert treatment, Andrew’s illness led to multiple organ complications and extensive treatment in the ICU, where he is still receiving treatment over 6 weeks later. Tragically the illnesses resulted in doctors needing to amputate both legs below the knees in order to save Andrew’s life. Andrew is just now medically stable, but he urgently needs to return home to Boston so he can continue to get the medical care he needs. While Andrew has not yet regained full consciousness, he has been showing encouraging signs and is fighting hard.
The only way Andrew can get home is via air ambulance, which is not covered by insurance and must be paid upfront. This is an unimaginable challenge for any family, and we are reaching out to all who know Andrew, and to compassionate strangers, to help bring him home. Your donation will go directly toward the cost of the med-flight and Andrew’s ongoing medical needs. Any amount, no matter how small, will help ease this tremendous burden and move Andrew one step closer to getting the care he desperately needs.
Andrew is known by everyone who loves him as a hardworking, kind, and deeply loyal man. He is the best "Uncle Andy" to his nieces and nephew. Thank you for your prayers, generosity, and support during this incredibly difficult time. We cannot wait for him to come home!
