Alan is currently bed-bound in a Portugese hospital with a broken femur after a crash in a golf cart.
In early October, he was finally back to doing what he loved - playing golf - after years of issues with his body.
For those that may not be aware, Alan had a motorcycle accident in the 1980's where he broke his right femur in multiple places and required a intramedullary rod for most of his life after this.
He was lucky to leave the hospital with 2 legs after that.
Over the years he has had multiple issues with his legs, resulting in multiple surgeries, and more recently 2 knee replacements.
His current situation:
While finally playing golf again in Portugal in early October, he was approaching his ball to the side of the green in a golf buggy. He drove through some trees and without warning fell into an unmarked ditch about 2 metres deep.
He was immediately attended to by other players and the local fire brigade, and required a tourniquet for severe bleeding on the scene. He was then rushed to the local hospital where an x-ray confirmed yet another femur break.
Upon seeing the state of Alan's leg and the historical issues with it, the Portugese surgeons do not want to operate on it and want his specialist in Oxford to handle the surgery.
This requires him travelling from Portugal to England with one of the most painful injuries possible.
His wife Irene and daughter Nikki have been working tirelessly trying to find a commercial flight from Portual to England that would accommodate him with the required support, however all have refused to take him.
Our only option left is now a medical repatriation on a full stretcher from country to country.
We are hoping for any support, however big or small, that will allow Alan to make it safely to the John Radcliffe hospital in England and receive the surgery he needs.
Thank you.
