My name is Abdulla. I am a Canadian citizen and a public servant working for the Government of British Columbia, with the Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General.

Earlier this year, I travelled to the United Arab Emirates for what was meant to be a short visit with family. While attempting to return home to Canada, I was stopped at the airport and placed under a travel ban connected to a military-service issue that arose years after I had already permanently left the country.

I have lived in Canada since 2004. Canada is my home. My husband Tyler and I have been together for over 20 years, and we built our entire life together in British Columbia.

Since being stopped from leaving the UAE, I have been required to remain in the country while my case moves through a military court process. I have now formally renounced my prior UAE citizenship, but the legal proceedings are still ongoing and I am not yet allowed to return home.

This unexpected situation has created serious financial pressure for me and Tyler.

Because I cannot return to Canada, my employment has been disrupted and I am now facing leave without pay. At the same time, we are still responsible for our mortgage and normal living expenses back home. We are also dealing with the growing legal costs required to resolve the court case so that I can finally return to Canada safely.

We never expected to face something like this. We are doing everything possible to resolve the situation properly and quickly, but the financial strain is becoming difficult to manage.

Funds raised through this campaign will help cover:

• legal expenses related to the ongoing court proceedings

• housing and living costs while I remain abroad

• mortgage payments at home in BC

• travel and administrative costs connected to resolving my case

• basic financial stability while I am unable to work normally
