Help bring a refugee family to Canada!

Castlegar Initiative to Sponsor Refugee Family

Castlegar Refugee Project (CaRe) has agreed to sponsor Tuan and Thang and their two boys, who are refugees from Myanmar currently living in Malaysia. Tuan and Thang both fled to Malaysia from Myanmar ten years ago after arrests, beatings and threats to their lives by the Myanmar police and the military. While they found some happiness together and have two lovely little boys, they have no legal rights to work or have their children schooled in Malaysia. Meanwhile, the human rights situation in Myanmar has gone from bad to worse.

BUT they do have a cousin in Canada, Zing Men, who was welcomed with open arms by Castlegar in 2016! She has asked us to bring her cousin and family to our wonderful country, and the Castlegar Refugee Project is asking you to help us do just that! If we can raise the needed funds, we can apply before the end of 2022! The funds will be used to support the family for one year as they settle in Castlegar.

Since this is a Charity GoFundMe, you will receive a tax receipt from PayPal Giving Fund Canada. Join us in being part of a good news story!
This effort is being supported by Kinnaird Park Community Church as a charitable organization. The Anglican Diocese of the Kootenays is the Sponsorship Agreement Holder.

History
In 2015 Castlegar Refugee Project - CaRe was formed, and in 2016 TWO families arrived, one from Syria and one from Myanmar. Both families received financial support, and volunteers helped with everything from ESL to getting them to medical appointments, social events, grocery shopping and more. And the best part is both are successful, thriving families now. Amna and Omar have 4 boys and a daughter in Nelson, and Omar works at the Nelson Coop as a butcher. Amna is excited because she's ready to apply for Canadian Citizenship. Tha Tin and Zing Men live in Regina and have 3 girls. Tha Tin works at the Brandt tractor factory, and Zing Men cleans offices. They are thankful for being in a safe, peaceful country.
