Help a former pro basketball player bring a recreation center to an under served neighborhood in Bristol, Pennsylvania
Where I live in Bristol, Pennsylvania, there isn’t a single recreation center in our under served neighborhoods, where close to 1 in 5 people experience a life of poverty.
I’m a former professional basketball player and Bristol native. When I retired after a successful ten-year basketball career, I knew I wanted to open my own gym so I can give back to my home community in Bristol. I was raised here, I live here now, and I have a passion for making our neighborhoods a great place to live.
As part of my larger mission to bring opportunity and joy to my community, My Partner D'andre Webb and I founded the nonprofit One Team One Goal Inc with a vision to give our youth the mindset of luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity.
This nonprofit initiative will be much more than a youth basketball club. We provide mentor ship, tutoring, and skill development in the sport of basketball to under served and at-risk youth.
Our aim is to train young athletes who want to excel and achieve their athletic potential while mastering the mental aspects of the game. The ultimate goal is to help provide these rising athletes with the opportunity to excel and compete at the next level, whether as a college athlete, in their continuing education, and/or in the business world.
To meet growing demand in our area for a private gym and rec center, we are in the process of acquiring our own space for this purpose. We’ve made great strides in this work, and I’m excited to announce that we recently signed a lease for the perfect location. We hope to open our new basketball gym and recreation center on September 15 of this year.
In order to get us to this goal, we are asking supporters to chip in a donation of any amount. We are aiming to raise a total of $75,000 with all funds raised going directly toward the new basketball facility basketball floor, equipment as well as our NCAA Clearinghouse/SAT prep and mentoring programs. I’ve already put in my more than a quarter of that amount of my own money as part of our work to move this project forward.
We can’t do this alone. We are looking for a community of supporters who can get behind this cause and help bring this dream to life. We are building a large following our area and I know there is a lot of excitement driving this project.
