Hold This Family Together: Help Bring a Father Home to His Baby Girl

My name is Blessing Nickerson. I am a U.S. citizen, a wife, and the mother of a beautiful baby girl named Princess. Today, I am asking you to help save my family.

My husband is an asylum seeker who has never committed any crime. He is a gentle, kind home health care worker who has dedicated his life to caring for the elderly and the sick. He brings warmth into the homes of strangers and dignity to those in their most vulnerable moments. Anyone who meets him feels his compassion.

He is also the most loving father I have ever seen. Our baby Princess lights up when she sees him. She melts into his arms. His voice calms her. His laughter fills our home.

A few months ago, everything changed. My husband went to an immigration office to pick up a routine document for his job. Instead of coming home, he was seized by officers from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and taken away without warning. He was transferred to Delaney Hall detention center and placed into deportation proceedings.

One moment, we were a whole family. Next, my baby lost her father. The conditions inside detention are harsh and dehumanizing. My husband, who once spent his days caring for others, now sits in confinement, uncertain if he will be deported and torn away from his U.S. citizen wife and child forever. He is missing Princess’s milestones, her first new words, her laughter, the way she reaches for him in her sleep. Each day apart is a wound that grows deeper.

At home, I am trying to stay strong. But I am heartbroken. My husband was our family’s primary breadwinner. I am now struggling to cover rent, utilities, food, and childcare alone. On top of that, we are facing urgent legal expenses to fight for his freedom.

We need approximately $7,500 to file a Writ of Habeas Corpus, a critical legal action that challenges his detention and could lead to a bond hearing. This is our best chance to bring him home while his case proceeds.

This is not just a legal battle. This is a fight to keep a baby with her father.
