Before dawn on Monday morning, Adriana left her three young children with their babysitter. She kissed them goodbye and headed to work. Minutes later, Adriana was detained by ICE agents who arrested her and took her into custody. She is now being held out of state, hundreds of miles away and hasn’t seen her children since. Her youngest was still breastfeeding.

Adriana’s children–Arturo, 7, Miguel, 4, and Isabella, 1, are now in the care of their Abuela Leslie, Adriana’s mom. And they are all reeling. The children cry for their mom, asking “Donde está mami?” (“Where is mommy?”) They are struggling to sleep. They are struggling to eat. They are struggling to understand why the person at the center of their world is suddenly gone.

Abuela Leslie, with two young girls of her own, is now caring for 5 children alone. She adores them and calls them all “mis niños” (my children) but it has been a struggle. She works at a fast food restaurant, and now pays $125 each day for childcare during each shift. She is barely breaking even. And she misses Adriana deeply.

Every donation will help this family cover their most urgent expenses: childcare and legal costs–as well as food, transportation, diapers, and other living expenses.

Adriana is a hardworking and devoted single mom. When she’s not working, she dedicates herself to her children, taking them to playgrounds, engaging them with indoor activities. When she calls home from detention, she cries about how much she misses them. Let’s bring her home.

There is hope

The good news is that Adriana has an active asylum case. She was in the process of getting her residency but struggling to cover legal fees.

Adriana’s asylum case means she is more likely to be successful in challenging her detention and being reunited with her children. But the family is facing an estimated $10,000 in legal costs. Legal representation is urgent and expensive, but it is the family’s only chance to reunite Adriana with her children.

El lunes por la mañana, antes del amanecer, Adriana dejó a sus tres hijos pequeños con su niñera. Les dio un beso de despedida y se dirigió al trabajo. Minutos después, Adriana fue detenida por agentes de ICE, que la arrestaron y la pusieron bajo custodia. La abuela Leslie, que ya tiene dos hijas pequeñas, ahora cuida sola de cinco niños. Los adora y a todos los llama «mis niños», pero ha sido muy duro. Trabaja en un restaurante de comida rápida y ahora paga 125 dólares al día por el servicio de guardería durante cada turno. Apenas le da para salir adelante. Y extraña mucho a Adriana.

Cada donación ayudará a esta familia a cubrir sus gastos más urgentes: el cuidado de los niños y los gastos legales, además de la comida, el transporte, los pañales y gastos de vida.

Adriana es trabajadora y una madre entregada. Cuando no está trabajando, se dedica por completo a sus hijos, llevándolos a los parques infantiles y organizando actividades en casa con ellos.
