The Bahrain Animal Rescue Center (BARC) is a sanctuary for stray, abused, and neglected dogs. The staff and volunteers at BARC take in the forgotten and abused dogs of Bahrain to keep them safe from the dangers of the street... and hopefully.. if they are lucky... those dogs will be chosen by an adopter to finally have a safe home and loving family of their own. At BARC, the dogs are given the food and medical care they desperately need, the affection they deserve, and a second chance at life.
BARC partners with Loved at Last Dog Rescue (LALDR), a British Columbia-based registered non-profit dedicated to rescuing as many dogs as possible, both overseas and locally. BARC and LALDR have worked together for years by rescuing Bahraini dogs, finding them adopters in Canada, and flying the dogs to their forever-homes where they can live out their lives with humans who will love and protect them.
COVID-19 has thrown a wrench in our ability to transport dogs overseas, which drastically affects our ability to rescue and adopt-out dogs.
Under normal circumstances, LALDR adoption fees cover the cost of transporting the dogs via the “Flight Buddies” program. Unfortunately, this program has been shut down since the onset of the global pandemic. As a charity, BARC and LALDR cannot cover the inflated flight costs, which means that there is a significant backlog of dogs at the BARC shelter. Without the adopted dogs able to leave, shelter spots aren't being freed up for the incoming street dogs in need of medical attention and food. The shelter is becoming overcrowded, and resources have been stretched to their limit.
The only remaining option for animal transport is Unaccompanied Cargo, which costs an outrageously expensive $2,800 per dog!
Back in March 2020, we started this GoFundMe in the hopes of raising enough money to transport 20 dogs to Canada via unaccompanied cargo. With the help of multiple donations, we were able to raise $8,281, which helped us bring 5 of the dogs to Canada!!
Currently, BARC still has 15 dogs with LALDR adopters waiting for them in Vancouver and we need your help to raise some more funds!
At $2,800 per dog, we need to fundraise $14,000.00 to bring the next 5 dogs to their adoptive homes in Vancouver.
EVERY LITTLE BIT COUNTS!
Even if we don't hit the full goal amount, all funds raised will go towards the cost of flights for the dogs... and each dog sent over will help alleviate the strain at the BARC shelter!
If you are able, please consider a contribution to this rescue effort. We know times are tough for many right now, but even $20 will go a long way if we all pitch in.
Please SHARE WIDELY and DONATE if you can. We can’t thank you enough for your support!
Sincerely, 15 doggies and their patiently-waiting adopters
