Thank you for visiting our campaign to raise funds to open Maxwell Gift & Grocery: a neighborhood gift shop and specialty grocer that will provide a curated selection of unique gifts and gourmet goodies.
Our Fundraising Goal
This campaign is a crucial part of making our dream a reality! We have finalized a business plan, created financial projections, and are forming an LLC. We’ve pooled together our money and resources, and have 50% of the funding we need to open the shop.
There are two storefronts that we are seriously considering, each of which are in neighborhoods in Brooklyn that are near and dear to our hearts. The additional funds that we hope to raise will ensure we have enough cash in the bank to secure a lease and cover some of our startup expenses.
Our Shop Inspiration & Vision
In our years living in Brooklyn, we both have really enjoyed finding our own neighborhood spots. The coffee shop with the best beans, and the owner who remembers our names and orders; the spot around the block with our favorite cookies and treats; a modest Indian grocery with every spice imaginable. Those experiences provided a lot of insight into what makes a business appealing, and more importantly what brings customers back through the doors.
Our plan is to take everything we’ve learned over the years, and with our own touches create a community-oriented shop that is practical, convenient, and fun.
About the Owners
Alana
If you know me, you know that I’m passionate about music, art, food, and culture. Though I’ve worked in operations and finance for the last 10 years, my true dream for many of those years has been to open a shop and curate a space with all the things I love: thoughtful gifts, yummy food, good music. The name of the shop is inspired by my grandpa Robert Maxwell who was a design nerd and an endearing packrat, and a lover of unique objects and things. I attribute my love of collecting and curating to the Maxwell gene. Aside from the creative side of this venture, I’m also just as excited about the business side - I love strategizing, crunching numbers, researching, and organizing. I’m looking forward to integrating these two sides of myself and working with Brienna to build a shop that is fun and welcoming.
Brienna
All of my professional career has been dedicated to service in some capacity. For a while it was through massage therapy. After that food and beverage, then bar and entertainment. My journey through these different lines of work has taught me the value of nurture and attention to detail. Most importantly I have learned the value of authenticity. When people see who you are, they gain something intimate: an opportunity to make a connection. Connections are what bring people back to places. Connection, longing for it and striving to create it in my own world, has been an important theme in my life. My hope is that by building this space to mirror our tastes and values, we will share a part of ourselves with the community around us.
