No one likes to do these, but we are sure grateful it’s an option when tragedy strikes, and times turn tough. On June 25, 2024 My Neice and Nephew Bridger and Macie Conklin were struck with a devastating incident. Their home caught fire and literally lost everything they had, except the clothing on their backs. Of course, they were thinking of someone other than themselves (just their typical nature) and trying to make their sister's birthday dinner a little extra special by smoking a brisket throughout the night for the upcoming evening gathering. Macie had been getting up every two hours throughout the night to check on the smoker since Bridger was working a graveyard shift. At 5am when her alarm went off to go check on it, she woke up to smelling something burning. She went to go outside through her back door to check on the smoker, when she opened the door one of their vehicles and brand-new camp trailer were completely engulfed in flames. She tried to shut the door but was unable to do so due to the extreme force of the fire. She then turned and ran out the front door just as she got out the ceiling over their bedroom collapsed. She quickly called 911 and then turned to go back for their 3 dogs and cat. But was stopped and couldn’t return to the inside of the home as it was engulfed with flames. She had to wait for the amazing Orem Fire department to arrive. Once they got there they went in and were able to successfully retrieve all 3 dogs, which sadly were all unconscious upon their finding as they were trapped in the bedroom that the ceiling collapsed in on. Thank goodness they have good connections with a vet clinic and the dogs were able to be scooped up and immediate lifesaving measures were provided as they were all burned and fighting to hang on to their lives. Sadly, the cat was not able to be retrieved and passed in the fire. If you know Bridger and Macie, you know they would be the first ones to give you the shirt off their backs without question, so this is hard for them to be on the receiving end of things. As a newly married couple just trying to get on their feet and starting their lives together, they have now lost all that they have and have worked so hard for. Unfortunately, they did not have renters’ insurance so they will have to start completely over again. From all their furniture, hunting gear, long time keepsakes, clothes, computers for school everything is gone. Bridger just started a new job and has been commuting to N. Salt Lake, being displaced, will now have to add an additional 30+ miles to his already 50 mile commute one way. Macie is in nursing school and since trying to focus on her school, she has minimized her working hours so she is not working full time. If you can find it in your heart to potentially help these young kids out with anything you can, they will be forever grateful. Their poor dogs are still hanging on, but not completely out of the woods 2 of the 3 are in critical condition as they are still being closely monitored.
