Help Bridge the Gap So LaZya Smith Can Achieve Her Education

Hi, my name is LaZya Smith and I’m reaching out with hope and humility.

This fall, I’m starting my journey as a university student majoring in psychology through a 3+3 accelerated law program. That means I’ll be completing my undergraduate degree and law school in six years instead of seven. It’s a fast-paced path I chose intentionally because I’ve always been passionate about justice, mental health, and creating change for those who need it most.

Even though I’ve done everything I was supposed to do — from applying early to securing scholarships and submitting all my financial aid documents — I recently found out I won’t be receiving all the funding I was supposed to get. Due to complications and delays caused by policy changes during this administration, many students like me were affected by the federal aid system. Now I’m facing a financial gap that could prevent me from starting school or force me into high-interest emergency loans just to stay enrolled.

I’ve worked hard for this. I graduated high school with strong grades, awards, leadership roles, and multiple internships in legal and community-focused positions. I worked with city, community, and my place of worship. I’ve committed to an accelerated academic path to save time and reduce long-term costs. But right now, I need help getting through this moment.
