Help Brice's Family in Their Fight
Donation protected
Brice was born with a congenital heart defect called Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome (HLHS), which means he has only half of a functioning heart. He also has severe tricuspid valve leakage, which made him a risky candidate for the typical 3 stage palliation (Norwood, Glenn, and Fontan). Brice and his family are from Northern Virginia, but local hospitals could not do anything to support Brice, as the only option for him was a transplant which the doctors did not think he would survive, unless given an intervention.
The family then temporarily relocated to Philadelphia, PA to receive the best chance of care until transplantation. This means both Mom and Dad had to leave their jobs and big sis had to leave all her friends and family back in VA. Brice has had a rocky course since birth including a major heart surgery to place a Ventricular Assistive Device (VAD), called the Berlin Heart, has suffered 2 strokes affecting most of his brain, and many cath procedures to open up different pathways in his heart. He is still continuing to fight, and hoping he will receive a donor heart soon!
