Help Briarra with her UConn Tuition
Hello all,
My name is Briarra Barnes. I am 18 years old from New Castle, DE, and in exactly one month, I will begin my journey at the University of Connecticut. I will be pursuing a degree in English in hopes to become a technical writer and a minor in Music to become a music teacher. I just recently graduated from Ursuline Academy in Wilmington, DE. I was very active in high school; dedicating my time to participating in various choirs and ensembles, musical theater shows, and many, many hours of community service. In the midst of such a peculiar year, I became the first in my family to finish high school and enroll in a higher education institution. All the while, I have taken on being a primary caregiver for my 87-year old great-grandmother, Doris. About 5 years ago, she was diagnosed in the final stage of dementia--also known as Alzheimer's Disease. Her condition has worsened in the wake of the pandemic and she has become completely dependent on my immediate family members and me. Alzheimer's Disease is a terrible, terrible disease and it has taken a toll on my family; watching my great-grandmother deteriorate before my eyes is an indescribable experience, but I wish with all my heart to make a difference for my family and make their lives better. I have always been easy to depend on and a great student; sustaining 2 jobs and my own income for 5 years, along with getting good grades. I thought getting into UConn was the best thing to ever happen to me; I am so proud to be a Husky and I am so excited to follow my dreams, I know it will be challenging in terms of expenses, but I also know God will see me through. Any kind of donation will be sincerely appreciated and will purely go towards my tuition costs. If you are unable to donate, any message of encouragement will be a balm and equally cherished. I pray God continues to bless you all and thank you for your time,
Briarra Barnes
