Just shy of 1 year ago, on April 25, 2024, Officer Brianne Jones was involved in a near-fatal crash on duty while responding to a call. The driver's side of her patrol car was t-boned by a work van, changing her life forever. Brianne was in critical condition and suffered numerous internal injuries. She was in a medically induced coma for 2 weeks following the crash and has spent nearly 100 days in the hospital in the last 11 months. Her pelvis was shattered, she had damage to her spine, internal bleeding, portions of her large and small intestines removed, damage to her reproductive organs, and has had an ostomy bag since her initial discharge from Duke Hospital. Her recovery has been long and difficult. She has had 18 surgeries to date, from general surgery to orthopedic, neurosurgery, oral, and ob/gyn. One of the latest surgeries landed her back in critical condition when she went into sepsis after doctors attempted to reconnect her intestines and remove the ostomy bag.
Brianne has been living on only about 60% of her salary for the past year, half of which goes to paying just her rent. Brianne’s mom, Barb, has been by her side through her hospital stays and continues to reside with her to assist with her ongoing recovery. A GoFundMe was created right after the crash, but unfortunately, with the length of time her recovery has taken, that money is about to run out. Brianne has been working hard to return to work, but until she can do so, she will be in a difficult position, not only physically but financially. One of her most important surgeries is upcoming and requires not only excellent nutritional and physical stability but a remarkable peace of mind to achieve a favorable outcome so that she can return to work. Please consider supporting her ongoing recovery efforts with any amount you can contribute. You might also consider asking a friend to join in a group donation. Your generosity would mean so much to someone who responded to a 911 call to assist a community member and now needs our help to return to her calling of serving the people of Durham. Thank you!
