My wife, Brianna McCarthy has her third procedure on February 16th at Wake Forest Atrium Baptist Medical Center in North Carolina. She was born with a congenital Arteriovenous Malformation (AVM) in her right gluteal muscle. An AVM is an abnormal tangle of blood vessels where arteries connect directly to veins, bypassing the normal network of capillaries starving tissues and organs of oxygen and proper nutrients to work properly. This has caused my wife to have early onset high-output heart failure that comes along with exhaustion, dizziness, shortness of breath, memory and concentration difficulties. Not treating her AVM leads to a shortened lifespan due to the strain it causes on her heart.
My wife's first two surgeries were in August and September of last year. While both procedures were successful, she will require 3-4 more in the coming months. Brianna's medical expense for the procedure is thankfully covered by her health insurance. As of right now she will be staying at the hospital for approximately three nights. The recovery from the procedure is extremely difficult and the doctor wants to manage her pain before a four hour car ride back to South Carolina. We are raising money to help pay for childcare for our six children, groceries at home, gas, hotel stay, food while there and medication not covered by insurance.
Brianna's life has improved significantly since the last two surgeries, but has a long road ahead until the AVM is fully treated. If left untreated the AVM will continue grow and strip her of her life. With a successful completion of these surgeries we are hopeful she will be able to live a full and beautiful life 100% cured. Her desire for her life is to serve Jesus Christ, be a wife and raise our six amazing children together.
Thank you so much for your support, prayers and love during this time. We are beyond grateful for the help and are truly blessed. Thank you!
