Eight months ago, my life changed dramatically when a diabetic foot ulcer led to a below-the-knee amputation of my right leg. At first, it seemed like the wound was healing after therapy and casting, but things took a turn for the worse. I returned to work, but my foot became extremely sore and swollen. I ended up in the hospital, where doctors told me I was close to losing my life from poisoning. The only option was to amputate my leg. Four months ago, I underwent the surgery, and just recently, I had the staples removed. Now, I’m waiting to heal enough to be fitted for a prosthetic leg so I can start learning to walk again.
Right now, I have no income and am relying on a food card and Oregon Health Plan, which thankfully covers my medical bills. However, I’m struggling to pay for rent, utilities, and credit card bills.e.
This experience has left me feeling more helpless than ever before. I can’t work until I get my prosthetic and learn to walk again, but I do have a job waiting for me once I’m able. My biggest hope is to regain my independence, return to work, and be an active part of my community again. Any support will help me cover basic living expenses and bridge the gap until I can walk and work again. Thank you for reading my story and considering a donation.
