This is Brian Vivas. He and his family are my dear friends from Venezuela, who were forced to immigrate to Peru because of the unliveable conditions in Venezuela. They have been faring well in Peru until Brian became very ill a few weeks ago. It turned out to be endocarditis - bacterial infections growing on two of his heart valves. The doctors explained that Brian is more susceptible to endocarditis because of the congenital heart defects he was born with which were related to his Down syndrome. He now needs heart surgery to replace both heart valves, and his family has run out of funds. We have sent what we can, but it is a very expensive surgery.
