Help Brian Stay Housed During Stroke Recovery

Support for Brian (AKA Bryan The MT) after a life changing embolic stroke

I was a living and working in Glendale. CA. On the morning of March 10th. 2026 I woke with severe pain in my calf and found the left side of my body paralyzed.

I called 911 and was admitted to a nearby hospital for treatment. Later that day it was confirmed that I had a stroke.

About 14 days later my situation is this:

My life as I knew it is over and done.

The good thing is that the stroke didn't impact my cognitive abilities as bad as it could've. I can still think creatively and slowly type with my right hand. I can still express myself vocally but my speech slurs.

The bad thing though, is that the left side of my body barely works.

I need help with bathing, using the restroom, balancing on a walker, and I have no use of my left arm and hand at all.

So now. I'm starting from scratch. I've gone from being a very physical man helping others work through their aches and pains, to being unable to sit up on my own in bed.

It's been very upsetting and strange. But I'm determined to walk again.

But it'll take time. Lots of time.

And help. Lots of help.

The primary need here is to keep a roof over my head. I am solo, and have been living independently month to month for years.

I need help financially as I navigate the ins and outs of SSI and other programs that as of right now are on the government chopping block.

I need help to stay afloat for the next six or seven months as I relearn how to be an adult human being.

And to learn how to take care of myself with this battered body of mine.

For me. I have a positive outlook, but I have to be honest that it's difficult to project ' love and light' vibes at the beginning of such a drastic and detrimental change to my status quo.

Where I am at right now:

I was admitted to a special wing of stroke survivors in Glendale Memorial Hospital. With the exception of the weekends I do physical therapy and occupational therapy for three hours daily.

This introduction of therapy earlier in the healing process is supposed to be better for patients. As my Occupational therapists told me, if you don't use it. You lose it...

Unfortunately I won't be able to stay in the program longer than my insurance will cover. So that means I'll have to care for myself on my own at home. Which again means, I have to produce rent without an income.

During this life transition I will mainly be working at becoming mobile and trying to get benefits to keep me housed. I hope to qualify for food services like EBT so I'm not worried about food as much as keeping up with rent and utilities. All money donations will be of help.

Thank you for taking the time to read my post and donating to my GoFundMe!
